  • Who Wins: Manny Pacquiao vs. Sugar Ray Robinson at 147 Lbs in a 12 Round Bout

pacquiao's place as this era's greatest fighter of the welterweight division is yet to be solidified. pacquiao said himself that he plans to fight for a few more years before finally hanging up his gloves and i think pacquiao would only fight in the welterweight division. at this point in time, to be realistic, what is left for pacquiao in the 147 weight class other than mayweather. who better to face pacquiao than the greatest welterweight of all time, sugar ray robinson.

no need for introductions but for those who've lived under a rock for the past century, robinson was untouchable in the welterweight division and beat 15 hall of famers during his boxing career. he had deadly accuracy especially with his right hand and was a very methodical genius in the ring.

as for pacquiao, he has all the qualities of an ATG but mostly would have an edge in the speed and volume punching department against robinson.

as the bell rings, pacquiao will be the aggressor and would take a page right out of the lamotta-robinson 2 fight. from the opening bell up until the middle rounds, both fighters will have their moments with pacquiao throwing a hundred punches per round while robinson uses his ring IQ and reach to try to catch pacquiao coming in. both fighters having an iron chin, sustains a back and forth exchange with no clear winner. in the late rounds, as the pace slows down, robinson gradually inches ahead of the score cards. knowing this, pacquaio lets loose a barrage of 5-8 punch combinations and tries to land a big shot but to no avail. as the final bell rings, the winner is declared and robinson wins by split decision.

    your thoughts?

a guy who is widely regarded as history's greatest p4p fighter?
almost six feet tall. 74" reach.

considered the best WW of all time, and among the top 3 consistently @ MW?

    5 time MW champion?
    never lost to a WW?
all time great chin and punching power?

sorry manny, i love you like a brother, but you are getting drilled with power punches and stopped.

Pacquiao is my boy, he's a great little fighter but if he can't handle the fundamentally sound Marquez there is no way that he's going to hang with Robinson. At least that's my opinion.

SD means one of the judges gives Manny the fight. Are you one of the judges for this fight?

Manny's inability to deal with movement and robinson's superior skill and power ends this fight early.

I know Marquez just knows how to fight Pacquiao.

But if a 5'7'' Marquez with a 67'' reach could arguably beat Manny at WW, I'd bet the house on the 5'11'' Robinson with his 72'' reach to UD Pacquiao rather easily.

You don't need any judges, at all! This is one of the sillyest fantasy bouts. I really don't think that todays fans have a clue how Sugar hit compared to the guys at 147 today! Theres no one even close to his power, no one!! That guy could knockout people with either hands. He had all the punches and all the moves!!!
Manny would have to come to Sugar and go in on angles and it wouldn't make any difference!!!
Robinson in less than 5!!! Because Manny would be right there, at the end of his punches and he never felt power like Sugar has!!! Ray.

It was in the contract that Robinson had to weigh in at 145 and couldn't hydrate past 150.

sugar wins by default, because he is the goat, even though majority on here never seen him fight, he was a huge puncher and would one punch ko pacquiao, that's what they think

i've never watched robinson vs a southpaw so i can't make a prediction
