Yeah but it's the biggest fight in and around that division. Casuals don't know what weight classes are. They are 2 big names fighting on the biggest boxing weekend of the year. It will be live.

PPV boxing isn't a sport. It's all about economics.

Loss of respect. I was thinking Alvarez would start stepping up in weight, fighting bigger opponents, in preparation for his eventual showdown with the real man at 160, Golovkin.

Alas, there will be no such showdown. There will only be an inflexible offer of 155 which Golovkin can't (and shouldn't) take, and if the belt is consequently stripped from Alvarez, he and his fans will position it as a victory against the unfair strictures of the boxing authorities. Cotto did something similar, and no one blinked.

So...the writing is on the wall. No real MW title fight between the two guys we (fans but not fanboys) really want to see fight.

        Fans lose. Again.

          Lost, of course.

People defending him are already bringing up other examples of other fighters having catchweights or mismatches, or Canelo having a good track record. That's just being desperate to defend him, and it's pretty simple actually.

Canelo fought a lot of good opposition and deserves credit for that, and is fighting a smaller, overmatched opponent @ Caneloweight and deserves criticism for it.

          Simple as that.

                Neither.

He's got wins over Trout, Lara, Cotto, Angulo and Kirkland and also fought Mayweather.

Sure, this is a cakewalk, but one fight isn't going to diminish the rest.

Were you this outraged when Cotto chose Delvin Rodriguez, when he fought Yuri Foreman, or when he fought old man Mayorga?

I bet you were singing a different tune for those fights.
