  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Feels Golden Boy Has Forced Top Rank To Asia

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya believes his company is dominating the boxing scene in the United States, which is forcing their competition to pursue opportunities in other markets. Golden Boy's main business rival, Top Rank, is starting to get heavily involved in the Asian market. They recently signed up Olympic gold medal winner Zou Shiming from China, and Olympic gold medal winner Ryota Murata of Japan.

Top Rank staged a show in Macau in April and have another card in the city scheduled for July 27th. They are also planning September in Singapore, and Top Rank's biggest star, Manny Pacquiao, will face Brandon Rios in Macau on November 23rd.

I think it has more to do with the amount of money to be made in Asia and the lack of drug testing for manny than it does with GBP

Pretty sure VADA is testing for Pacquiao's fight.

        And it's for the money. $300,000 for Shiming's 4 rounder pro-debut...

          Its simple economics

          USA has 300 million

          China has 1.3 billion

And how did GB force Top Rank to do anything when GB's last PPV bombed and there were more than 1,000 empty seats in Vegas on the biggest weekend in boxing?

There's no doubt GBP is putting on the more meaningful fights, the bigger fights that everyone wants to see. Top Ranks stable is sad these days and they have to branch out because they put together **** fights plain and simple.

GBP will end up in China eventually.
Big money there -- and one never knows if a fight is not fixed.
                  Nice future for boxing.
