In extreme cases a fighter can take a brutal beat down in a winning performance, take George Foreman vs Alex Stewart for example.
Happens all the time. Ward took a pounding against Gatti in their first fight, Margarito ate like 350 from heavy-handed Cotto, Ali and Frazier almost killed each other in Manilla etc. If the winner comes out looking like hell, I hate to say it, but more often than not we win.

Riddick Bowe got the crap kicked out of him in his 2nd DQ win over Andrew Golota.

Just watching Gene Fullmer vs Benny Paret and thought i would google search for a thread like this.

Not completely one sided but it was an absolutely savage beating. Fullmer is the kind of fighter who takes your soul in the ring. Him with a size advantage, and Paret with crazy toughness only accentuated and extended the beating.

Only 3 months later Paret would have his infamous last fight with Emile Griffith. Watching the Fullmer fight gives a bit more context as to how that fight could end how it did.
