Will the surgery Ortiz had on his jaw negatively affect him?

I can totally see him being gunshy in fear of getting clocked. Happened to Cotto so why not Ortiz.

He can be "gunshy" or "lose confidence" or anything you want, but the question was about whether it will negatively affect him, presumably make his jaw soft.

Assuming that this is what the question points to, the answer is that it should be much stronger therefore will affect him positively. The nature of broken bones is that if they are set properly, the break rejoins and extra calcium migrates from other parts of the body and bullds it up. I think the metal plate is only to keep a double break properly aligned....like a splint. it will be taken away when they're sure the bone has properly healed. He may have a little bulge there to show the extra bone buildup.
