  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Manager: Murray Refuses To Fight Gennady

Oleg Hermann, manager of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs), says British fighter Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11KOs) has refused to face his boxer. They wanted to fight Murray on February 1 at Salle des etoiles in Monte Carlo, but Hermann says Murray is refusing to accept the fight. The WBA placed Murray in line as the mandatory challenger to Golovkin.

On Saturday, reports surfaced that Murray was going to face Golovkin on the February date. Murray later denied the reports, stating that he was scheduled to fight on the same show in separate bout, and looked forward to facing Golovkin in the near future. [Click Here To Read More]

since he's mandatory can't they take it to purse bid and force him to fight or lose his interm belt. they should at least do that to publicly shame him.

Personally don't blame him, he needs a lot more preparation for this fight... would be career suicide to go into a GGG fight just to get destroyed, Murray has more self-respect than that.

What th hell was Hatton taking about when he said Murray was getting a world title shot then? If Hatton meant the regular WBA belt, don't see why the WBA would let that happen after not fighting the mandatory.

Another crazy possibility it's that Manaco is setting up some type of middleweight tournament and Murray will be fighting Quillin.

The WBA allowed him to keep his interim title after his loss to Sergio on the bases that he faces Golovkin next...yet he wont

Just go to purse bid if he really doesn't want it.
Everybody will take less money, but if that's what they want, then go that way

Maybe Barker? Quillin would be a big surprise

murray will fight darren barker ( if he gets past sturm).

alot alot more money, easier fight for world title, and fight can be in uk, neutral

it makes more sense for to go for darren barker
