  • Wec Signs World Class Wrestler, Plus Jeremy Jackson

    WEC PRESS RELEASE

World Extreme Cagefighting has signed some of the best fighters in the world to compete on October 17th at the Palace Casino in Lemoore, California. The big names will be fighting at the Palace Casino for Halloween Fury II.

The WEC has just signed one of the most decorated wrestlers in the world today in Tollie Thompson. Thompson is an Olympic caliber World Class Wrestler. He has won National Championships and has some of the most impressive wrestling credentials of any MMA athlete. It's no surprise that the man managing him is Olympic Silver Medalist Matt Lindland.

Lindland said of Thompson. "He has a chance to be a special MMA fighter. He has the background to be great and now it's up to us to show him the differences in MMA."

Lindland has Thompson training right now in Iowa with the Miletich Fighting Fighting Systems, namely Pat Miletich, in addition to fighters with Team Quest.

The WEC hasn't stopped there to bring in big name talent. The WEC also announced that UFC and WEC veteran, Jeremy Jackson will be on next week's card as well. Jackson is one of the better young up and coming fighters in the world today. He has been dominant in WEC events and he hopes to continue his dominance at the Palace Casino.

There are some other big names on the card. Mr.International, Shonie Carter will fight for the WEC Welterweight World Championship Belt. Carter will take on JT Taylor who has an 8-1 MMA record with his only loss is to Ronald Jhun. Taylor defeated Ryan Schultz from Team Quest by KO in their last fight at WEC VII.

Speaking of championship belts, the WEC Lightweight Belt is on the line when young MMA star and champion, Cole Escovedo faces WEC veteran Anthony Hamlett for the WEC Lightweight Belt. Hamlett has been in with all the tough fighters like Hermes Franca, Jeff Curran, and Jimmy Terrell, not to mention a win at WEC 6 against Caleb Mitchell.

Escovedo, "the Apache Kid", has an impressive 7-1 record and has finished all seven fights. He loves to use the triangle choke and in those seven fights; all of his wins have come by submission.... five of those by triangle choke. Escovedo is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world on the ground and he looks to hold onto his WEC belt.

There will be a very interesting fighter that has been added to this card. Everyone knows one of the best fighters in the world at 205 pounds. Chuck Liddell is pound for pound one of the best in the business in the Light Heavyweight Division. Now his brother, Sean Liddell, looks to follow in the footsteps of his brother and make his debut in mixed martial arts. Will Sean Liddell look impressive in his first fight? We will find out on October 17th.
