He needs big platforms to fight on to get his name out there and short of fighting on CBS/NBC there is no bigger platform than Mayweather's card. Canelo simply isn't at the stage where he should be walking around acting like a super star. He needs to be getting more exposure first before locking himself down on a small channel like Showtime.
He went from averaging 1.6 million viewers on HBO, to being watched by tens of millions of the May undercards, and when he gets a little big headed he ditches this and goes walking over to a small channel like Showtime where his viewers drop to 1 million - AND THAT'S A RECORD FOR SHOWTIME. This kid is allowing his exposure to drop like a rock when he should be getting bigger.
Wrong moron canelo s already big in Mexico he is a super star and unlike Floyd who needed Oscar to become a super star in the states Canelo is doing just fine building up his fan base here. So it was a great move on part of Canelo to let Floyd know that he ain't the boss of him and watch Canelo improve is views on showtime

Canelo has the most recognizable faces in boxing. Who wouldn't recognize a ginger kid? He's been in a lot of undercard fights not just in Mayweather's. So naah, he doesn't have to be in another Mayweather event. Canelo's becoming a real star will depend on who he fights from here on in. He may be in Floyd's undercard but if he's fighting a nobody it's useless.
Are you mad because he snubbed your idol or what? That's just idiotic. You should be glad he's fighting Trout regardless of the date. What's also idiotic is Floyd not being able to commit to fighting Canelo. He's he scared or what? We all know that if Canelo gets humiliated by Trout, the fight will not likely to happen.

Canelo is a huge star in Mexico and a lot of Mexican Americans like him as well in the states. Because he got his fame all by his lonely not like Chavez Jr with his dad. He doesn't have to fight on Mayweather PPV undercards. He could sell out arenas on his own and headline his own events.

Has there ever been a boxing crossover superstar who couldn't speak a lick of English?
Roberto Duran? He got his exposure from fighting American superstars though.
Kind of like Canelo would if Floyd would fight him.
But as for stars who don't speak English. Manny's english is pretty broken and was worse a few years back. In the UFC Anderson Silva speaks very little english his last fight did 500k buys. Also in the UFC Faber's last fight did 400k buys. Fedor was also a big name, he attracted lots of viewers when he fought on NBC, or whatever channel he fought on. I know boxing fans like you are pretty jaded when it comes to race but really the general public wouldn't think twice about this stuff if the promoters weren't so conceited as to use race as their primary promoting tool.
Bob Arum saying he only promotes to Mexicans would be like a person saying they only talk to white people. Say something like that in public and no one will want to know you.
