BREAKING NEWS: World Cup 2010: Didier Drogba Injured During Cote d’Ivoire’s Japan Clash

The Chelsea ace sustained a problem with his right arm...

Didier Drogba failed to last 20 minutes of Cote d’Ivoire’s friendly encounter with Japan, going off injured in the early stages of the match, which was played in Sion, Switzerland.

With only quarter of an hour gone in the game, Drogba was the victim of a heavy tackle from Japanese defender Tulio, leaving him a little dazed. AFP reports that the Chelsea forward was ultimately withdrawn due to an injury to his right arm. CSKA Moscow’s Seydou Doumbia was quickly brought into the frey.

Drogba, who is rated as the third best player in the world by the Castrol Rankings, had already made his influence tell in the early stages of the game, when his free kick was deflected home by Brazilian-born Tulio.

Despite the loss of Drogba, the Ivorians went on to win the game, which was played over three 45 minute periods, 2-0, though they would not relish a trip to South Africa without their recognised star forward.

              dammmmmmmm

the brits are going crazy now??????????/ just read...

RUSTENBURG, South Africa -- England captain Rio Ferdinand injured his left knee in training on Friday and was sent to a hospital for a scan.

The center back was hurt in a collision during a training session at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Campus.

"It happened near the end," coach Fabio Capello said. "He has gone to the hospital for a scan and we will have to see how things are."

In more positive news, midfielder Gareth Barry trained for the first time in public since injuring his right ankle a month ago.

The ligament damage sustained by Barry playing for Manchester City on May 5 made him uncertain for inclusion in England's 23-man World Cup squad. But he made the cut after a medical check on Tuesday.

"We have to wait day by day to see what happens with the ankle," Capello said. "The work is harder every day, stronger every day."

Goalkeeper David James, however, worked separately from the team in the complex's gym to start the session.

"David James has a little problem with the knee after a long flight," Capello said.
