  • Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez-Kazuto Ioka Purse Bid on February 18

The Championship Committee of the World Boxing Association (WBA) has ordered a purse bid for February 18 for the mandatory fight between the "regular" junior flyweight world champion Kazuto Ioka of Japan, and the "super champion" of the division, Nicaraguan boxer Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez.

Ioka won the regular title on December 31 in Osaka with a seven round TKO over Mexican Jose Rodriguez. His record remains undefeated with 11 wins, seven by knockout. Previously he had reigned at the minimumweight category.

Interesting fight. Maybe the winner fights Viloria.

Only if it's Roman. I don't think Ioka will move up so fast... and if he does, he'll target the lineal champ for a huge Japan showdown

Cuello is at 105. Gonzalez hasn't fought at 105 for at least a few years and Cuello was only made the manditory challenger after he beat Yaegashi. I would have loved to see Ioka vs Cuello but I don't blame him for moving up he was a huge staw weight and had already unified two titles in his 10th fight. He really didn't have much to prove at 105, but I do think it would've been a great fight.
Now Cuello is getting dicked around by the WBC and who knows when he will even get a shot.
Cuello can crack but Gonzalez and Ioka beat him IMO.
