  • The Superior Fighter: Prime Juan Manuel Marquez or prime Miguel Cotto

I'm not asking who would win if the two fought each other. I'm asking which fighter you believe is superior in regards to skill, speed, power, stamina, counter-punching, etc. On their best nights, who's the top dog between the two and why?

Bonus question: Who do you find more exciting to watch?

    Thanks.

Cotto is more exciting, FAR FAR FAR more versatile, more powerful and faster. Marquez IMO is a bit overrated, has great counter skills but showed if the guy doesn't come to him he can't do anything else. That being said Cotto is the better all-around fighter, Marquez is simply a brilliant counter-puncher.

Skill for skill they arent that far apart.

        Cotto has the better jab.
        Hes the better inside fighter.
        P4P he has more power.
He cuts the ring off better.

Marquez has the better timing. Although Cottos timing is elite as well.
They are even on defense and both get hit alot.
JMM puts his hands together better.
        P4P wise hes faster.

They are almost even. Its a wash.

Marquez is more exciting, but when has Cotto ever been in a boring fight. These two are neck and neck either way.

          Miguel Cotto.

JMM gets overrated on these boards too much.

Other than great counter punching skills, he still lacks chin and footwork. Also he's a slow starter.

Miguel Cotto in his prime was running over all the "great" counter punchers he fought.

All that aside, they are both 2 different beasts and are each superior against different styles of opponents.

This is how I see it but I have Marquez as the better boxer. Marquez has better combos as well.

How many times has he gotten KD or near KD in his last few fights?
