It ain't that though is it. The Ward proposal was for a fight in mid / late 2016 - right in the timeframe GGG would have been expecting to fight the Cotto / Canelo winner as mandated. Whether or not Canelo - GGG happens that was the information they were working with, so the risk / reward equation was not Ward or Lemieux, but Ward or Cotto / Canelo which is kind of a no brainer.

When faced with that choice I would call the fighter that chose the Ward fight as dumb as a bag of rocks.
