Just a comparison between two fights here that happened on the same card. Randall Bailey vs Mike Jones and Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley.
A lot of people had Mike Jones way ahead at the time of the stoppage but Bailey pulled off a beautiful upset and KO'd him in the 11th. Similarly, Manny Pacquiao was thought to be way ahead by the end of the fight but we all know what happened with the bogus decision.
To me, both Bailey and Bradley's, as well as Jones and Pacquiao's performances were comparable in some senses. Bailey would try throwing jabs to keep Jones guessing and occasionally try to brawl on the inside throwing some uppercuts and occasional combos, just like Bradley did.
Jones would try to ambush Bailey with quick combinations then step back out, just like Pacquiao. The major difference of course is that Bradley has no where near the same power as Bailey and I thought Pacquiao was beating Bradley even more convincingly than Jones was beating Bailey.
But the fight patterns were very similar, other than the way they ended, and very strange to see how hugely different the scoring was.
At the time of the stoppage for Bailey-Jones check the scores: 97-93. 98-92. 99-91 all for Jones. Pac-Bradley scores.. well you all know... It's odd that two fights with a similar sort of pattern, in the same venue and on the same night, were scored so differently by the judges of each fight.
