  • Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Fight Could Be Announced July 19

LeBron James’ decision concerning his free agency status was aired to hoops fans around the nation last night, but boxing fans will have to wait until July 19 for the epic decision that’s been keeping them up every night.

Promoter Bob Arum declared if Floyd Mayweather Jr. agrees to terms with Manny Pacquiao, he will announce the bout's specifics on July 19.

The conditions of a Mayweather agreement entail a 50-50 split of the purse, random drug testing until 14 days before the fight, and a boxing weight of 147 pounds.

Boxing fans, for the most part, are optimistic the fight will take place considering the actions from the Mayweather camp.

The libel suit pressed against the Mayweather family by Manny Pacquiao (because of allegations that Pacquiao used steroids) hasn’t stopped them from hurling slanderous statements.

In fact, the most recent statement from Floyd Mayweather Sr. illustrates his blunt sentiments towards Pacquiao and also predicts a knockout win for his son.

"C'mon with that, my son will knock him out,” said Mayweather, Sr., according to BoxingScene.com. “Pacquiao can't box. Freddie Roach didn't teach him anything. He still can't box. Shane Mosley is a tougher fight than Pacquiao. [Pacquiao] didn't want to fight Shane Mosley. Floyd beat the **** out of Shane Mosley. All [Pacquiao] has to do is show up and Floyd will whoop his ass."

Offensive or not, the more trash the Mayweather camp talks, the more confident boxing fans should become about the possible super fight.

Mayweather Jr. started intense workouts with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco in Las Vegas last week. I think it’s safe to say that Mayweather isn’t training for good health and longevity.

No one knows for sure what goes through Mayweather Jr.’s mind, but all fans can do is hope that on July 19 he will give boxing fans around the world the fight they demanded—Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

How is what Floyd Sr. said slanderous or offensive? He said Pacquiao can't box and that Floyd Jr. would whup his a$$. Did anyone expect him to say anything different? Freddie Roach has said similar things about Floyd Jr recently. So what? They're planning to fight. It'll get settled in the ring.

Its hard to separate fact from fiction with all the B.S reporting.

Hopefully this is closer to fact.

Floyd already stated he will not give Pacquiao 50-50.

          End of story.

Buy or Sell: Arum keeps his mid-July deadline for Mayweather to accept the fight?

As Bob told me this week it's not a "hard" deadline. But it is reasonable that sometime in the next week or so, maybe even two weeks, that a decision has to be made one way or the other for the sake of properly getting the promotion rolling with such thing as having sponsors plan for their activations, etc... To make the fight as big as possible they need several months to do their thing.
