What is the difference between a counter puncher and a defensive fighter and who win in a 12 round fight between these two,the reason why is because i dont see a difference between the two

A defensive fighter is looking to limit the other guy, a counter puncher is looking to create opportunities from their defense.
It is kind of a 50/50 fight although not in an exciting way, the defensive fighter will not oblige the counter puncher and give him opportunities thus the counter puncher can't do his thing. Who wins really comes down to who can step out of their archetype better. -
Counter puncher wants to make the fighter throw and make mistakes so he can counter, defensive fighters are safety first, don't want the opponent to get anywhere near him.
