Why was Marquez so easily handled by Mayweather?

Marquez jumped up 2 weight classes and was still cheated on the scales.

A big counterpuncher is always going to beat a smaller counterpuncher.

So many reasons listed here apply, also if you look at his physique you could tell he did not work his way up, he just put on weight. It was a just a big payday against a much bigger opponent. In later fights at the heavier weight you could see a big difference in his build as he himself admitted he originally did it wrong. In those later fights he built himself up rather than just coming in heavy.

It's an absolute perfect style match up for Floyd.

Floyd is never going to lose at that pace, if you fight at his pace and box, he's going to dominate you.

Add the fact that Marquez struggles when he has to lead, and someone is countering him.

Then add in Floyd had every physical advantage.

          its a style matchup

Marquez excels vs guys that come forward aggressively.. Floyd won't give him the openings needed to counter, and exposed marquez as a flat footed slow, plodder that has trouble with movement..

Marquez just doesn't have the footwork and speed to really bother floyd much..

As it is with nearly all of Mayweather fights, all the odds were stacked in his favor.

Floyd does everything that JMM is best at better than he does, as stated already here JMM is going to having his best outings against aggressive come forward fighters who walk into his counters and combinations.

                THIS^^^^^^^^^^

Floyd isn't losing to a smaller, slower, less powerful, slow footed, counter puncher

Nah, it was against John it became readily apparent IMO. I personally thought Marquez did enough to win, but he struggled to cope with John's movement and didn't look good at all, over-extending and falling all over the place when he had to press on the front foot.

Oh the virtues of perfect balance, and how they all come crashing down when coming a cropper against a guy who you need to press, and move to the front foot occasionally. I think the beast in Marquez likes to open up occasionally, it out him on the canvas against Pacquia and it didn't do him any favors against Floyd.

Thing is marquez often sets when he counters, Floyd often doesn't. For example
watch the hook mayweather hit hatton with....he just floated into position. then look at the shot marquez hit pac with....his feet were set.

Yes,, the John fight was the first to expose the flaws in Marquez

But only me, you, and about 6 other people on the planet have ever seen that fight
