      The Mariners were better when they had prime Griffey, prime Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, etc. in the 90s.

      Sure in 2001 they had a great team and great season. But their best team was in the 90s.

        Best team is relative over periods of time. Maybe their 90s team was better, but they got pounded by even greater teams of the era, like the Indians and Yankees.

          I just don't think having one great pitcher[Hernandez], and then maybe one good one, and the rest are average, is gonna get you a championship.

          When it comes to batting, every team can hit. The Rays at their worst, back then, actually good in the batting category. They just suffered from pitching, Mariners suffer from pitching, Royals suffer from just about everything but it's mostly pitching as well. When you have a good pitching staff, you can build your team around that.
