  • Bob Arum Slave Master or Promoter?

Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya, and Floyd Mayweather have all left Bob Arum's top Rank Promotions and as Top Ticket Sellers have done well for themselves. Is that bad for the establishment or smart business. Are Boxers smart enough to do their own business?

One of them being Manny Pacquiao, the biggest idiot in the history of the sport.

The smartest thing Floyd Mayweather ever did was to break free of Bob Arum.

Arum is a selfish, greedy old man.

Fans should realize the one who blocked the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was not either Floyd or Manny. It was Bob Arum.

you're asking if fighters can promote themselves?

the answer is no. of course not. once in a blue moon a fighter will delve into promoting himself, but it's almost always done with a partner (a promotor,) and at the end of his career once he is already established.

training and fighting is their job. they're nowhere close to being qualified to be in charge of the management and promotion of their own careers. that takes a ton of time, money, and incredible skill, completely separate from the skills that a boxer requires.

          are promotors fair to fighters?
that depends on your definition of fair. i tend to think that boxers are much more heavily exploited than most other top level professional athletes. i blame the lack of regulation in the industry, and poor or underhanded management. it's easy to take advantage of most of these guys.

do promotors have a right to make a hell of a lot of money?
yes. the investment of time and money that is required of a promotor, and the level of agency he must have in boxing gives him the right to profit off of their labors.

arum has a bad reputation and a bit of a bad track record, but he does make a lot of fighters a lot of money.

king has made tons of guys bonafide millionaires. i've heard that he's the most ruthless of all of the promotors. he's all but out of the game, though.

Yes, and for many years Pacquiao has been happy being the house Negro. SMH.

i don't see any talented young journalists out there to speak of, but the dissolution of the pacquiao and mayweather fight would make for a hell of a topic for a book.

The problem here are simple minded people who have no understanding of business and how it is run.

Show me a fighter who runs a promotion successfully BY THEMSELVES. Fighters need promoters, advisers, managers. Bob Arum is shrewd and killed but he also promoted many big fights and knows how to build them up. People say the best thing for Oscar and Floyd was to leave Arum, but yet do not give Arum credit for building their careers.

Oscar De La Hoya? nope! Richard Shaeffer and several others run that company, Oscar just gave his face and name to the brand and invested his money, he couldn't run that by himself as the boss.

Don't fall for the front, Floyd doesn't run his own business Arum and 50 cent already said that guy is not very bright.

Floyd doesn't even have a legit promotional company he is promoted by Golden Boy and managed and advised and given allowance by Al Haymon.

Bob Arum whether we like it or not is the best promoter in the game, yes he is a greedy A hole, but in terms of him promoting fights nobody does it better he knows it, and 50 cent knows this too that is why he is trying to learn as much as he can from him.

Don King isn't even relevant anymore and Arum is still the top promoter in the business, that shows you how powerful Arum and Top Rank is.

How is Arum the top promoter when all his best fighters have left him??... His stable in the 140-154 div. Is dry as fuk... He couldn't get Bradley a fight cause he refuses to work with golden boy, he's recycling rios-Alvarado cause for the same reason and surprisingly nobody has caught up on to that one
