Gatti won a vacant title while Tszyu was the unified champ. Very careful move obviously. Who did he fight at 140 that was worthy lb4lb?
His goal was to gain a title with the least risk. Even at 147, fighting Judah for a vacant title, when Judah was coming off a loss. Sure he beat Baldomir eventually, but if you look at the rankings at the time you have to ask about all the better fighters that were not supposedly worthy to fight.
Judah won the IBF belt from Spinks.

      3- DeMarcus Corley (journeyman)

      4- Henry Bruseles (bum)

5-Arturo Gatti ( C talent according to Mayweathers own words)

6- Sharmba Mitchell (shot post Tzyu version, and at WW)

7- Zab Judah (after a loss to Tata)

8- Tata Baldomir (journeyman WW who was lucky enough to face the perennial underachiever Judah)

9- Oscar (not even a full time fighter at the time and way past it)

10- Hatton at WW. (Overrated, plus Hatton is not a WW)

11- JMM. ( do I even have to explain this one?)

So there you have it. A long list of misfits, journeymen, no hopers and blown up fighters since 2002.

How the hell is this guy even ranked in the top 10 at WW??

      What has he done?

You can't even compare him and Margarito.

Margarito fought Cintron, Williams, Cotto, Mosley and Clottey.

He deserves a crack at Packy first on achievements alone.

Nice recap. But you're being too generous. Floyd's win vs DLH and Hatton are questionable

      • Post Castillo, I was disappointed fights with Cotto and/or Margarito didn't happen in 2008. I was disgusted by the Marquez fight. But now PBF is making up for this by challenging Mosley. If he wins that fight and faces Pac afterward he's fully redeemed himself in my view.

meh I didnt think the Margarito fight was all that great

the Cotto fight he had Cotto and let him off the hook....again

Gatti and Corley would lose badly to those 2. Clottey is just a better fighter.
hard to compare when Margarito is a 147lb fighter and neither Gatti nor Corley were.

Also correct me if I am wrong but didnt Corley have Cotto on queer street?

The Judah fight was a decent win, but it didn't need to happen since Judah lost to Tata.
but if not Judah then he faces a guy in tata you call lucky
And Clottey beat Judah better than Floyd did.
you sure? I seem to recall a close technical decision where Clottey was only up one point on two cards

hell yeah man. That version of oscar was even worse than Floyds version.

              cool

Floyd would get schooled badly by JMM at 130.
              well that solves that

granted you are no Manny fan but you clearly are nothing more than a Mayweather hater if you think this. JMM vs Mayweather would be a greatly contested fight

then magically comes back outa retirement after marg beats cotto and gets suspended (2 birds with 1 stone)
how does that make sense when margarito just lost to williams

JMM that time was a blown up JWW.
