  • Uppercuts, a few questions....

Does an uppercut to the body have a different name other than uppercut?

How do you know how upwards or how fowards the power of your uppercut should be going? Like some people punch up like Ryu from street fighter 2, some fire it more like a cross etc,

Should the elbow ideally be locked at 90 degrees like with a hook?

How do you throw the perfect uppercut?

Well, angle changes depending on distance of opponent. It is tucked in nice and tight when opponent is close, keep it close to your body, and it is open more when opponent is at distance, like Marquez' wide ass uppercuts. Uppercut to body can vary from almost from straight into the body to 45 degree, to dig into it.

You mean "shovel hooks" to the body? The power from the uppercut comes from the legs, through the waist and shoulder rotation and translates to the fist at the end (as with all punches generally speaking). It all depends where your trying to hit your opponent and how tall/big he is. You should talk to your trainer/instructor on proper technique.
P.S. Don't try and learn how to box, fight or anything for that matter from videogames, it won't help you in the long run.

Well that's me putting the red suit back in the wardrobe and stopping shouting "Hadouken" all the time then when I punch. Back to the drawing board .

Could have been worse, might have been a red dress
