I can't think of an era that can top the Fantastic 4.

The 90s...and not because of just those names, you left out two of the most important big names...

      DLH and Trinidad

40s, 70s and 80s all pretty even, some special fighters there in all of them but you really gotta decide in your own mind as to the criteria to judge these fighters - pure skill, special talent....or simply the greatest excitement of fights between them.

That is really hard to say. If you only count those fighters I would say the 80s or 40s was the best. If you meen over all its hard to say. Boxing just as any other sport has changed. Less rounds, the fighters nowdays has more knowlage of how they sould eat and exercise. Back in the early 20th century they were way tougher from hard labour from an early age and having no other way to make good money other than from boxing. I think the trainers overall where better back in the day and they put a lot more effort in teaching students things like balance, feints, footwork and how to set up opponents. Today you dont see that much finesse in the fighters. Even the so called elite are elite mainly based on fysical things such as speed, hard chin, reachadvantage or natural power rather than tecniquebased things like footwork or great combination punching.

For me it would have to be the 70's.

It was the golden age of the Heavyweights and Light heavyweights, and IMO the quality of the average boxer started to decline in the 80's and thereafter.

But of course I am very partial to the 70's because that is when my love affair with boxing first began, and also when your a kid everything is so much grander and special as opposed to when you are older and more cynical.

Boxing was always on free t.v. and much more mainstream then it is now.

I do miss the 70's I must admit.

No decade really has a monopoly or edges the others, the weightclasses producing the elite fighters just changes from decade to decade.

Hands down from top to bottom across all the weight classes the 80s have to be the best.

                  Tyson
                  Holmes
                  Spinks
                  Holyfield
                  Hearns
                  Hagler
                  Leonard
                  Duran
                  Mancini
                  Whittaker
                  Camacho
                  Chavez
                  Mayweather
                  Chacon
                  Pryor
                  Arguello
                  Mccallum
                  Curry
                  Norris
                  Mugabi
                  Witherspoon
                  Nunn
                  Andries
                  Hall
                  Azumah
                  Sanchez
                  Rosario
                  Ramirez
                  Barkley
                  Benitez

70s had the heavyweights and other decades might have better divisions but from top to bottom 80s has most depth and most ATGs IMO

80's hands down!!! Especially from lightweight to middleweight. Insane competition and sublime skills of contrasting styles. Thanks for listing all those warriors!
