  • Why did Tureano Johnson really pull out of the fight?

If you follow Johnson on Twitter you know he's been wanting to fight GGG since before the Willie Monroe Jr. fight. Most of his timeline over the past year has been spent calling out GGG, complaining about not having a fight and talking about training for the fight. Nowhere is he talking about an injury. I believe it's a legit shoulder injury but most fighter, well athletes, have the same injury and could use surgery if they could afford to take the time off. It wold be interesting to see his pre-fight injury questionnaire before the O'kane fight. I'm pretty sure those are public record. He only fought twice last year. How can he afford to take so much time off and possibly only fight once this year? He was scheduled to go on a radio show yesterday to talk about the GGG fight and he canceled right before the news of the shoulder injury came out.

This is fishy. What would Golden Boy or Johnson have to gain by doing this? Will the mandatory be delayed or will he lose his spot? Beterbiev lost his spot due to injury but he wasn't the mandatory he was scheduled to fight an eliminator. What's the end game in all of this?

Money! Maybe the offer was too cheap.
Anybody know what Johnson was offered?

He wasn't offered anything because the fight wasn't official yet.

          These conspiracy theories are dumb.

Anybody who thinks Golden Boy is making Johnson pull out in order to postpone GGG-Canelo (OP didn't say that but many others have in other threads) simply doesn't understand the IBF rules.

Unifications take precedence over mandatories. If you're unifying two (or more) World titles, you can always put your mando on pause (provided that the other title is not one of those BS "WBA regular / interim" titles).

This will have no effect on GGG-Canelo because Canelo has the WBC belt. GGG-Canelo is a unification, it takes precedence over the IBF mando, and therefore Johnson must wait for the winner.

There is no grand conspiracy LOL. The guy just isn't at 100% and so long as he'll be the mando for the winner of Canelo-Golovkin, he's going to make sure he comes into the biggest fight of his life in perfect condition.

He's out for 4 months. The mandatory is due at the end of June, early July. I know unifications take precedence over madatories. I'm asking if Johnson will lose his spot and GGG gets a voluntary? If Johnson keeps his spot and says he'll be ready in June/July can he ask for the mandatory before the Canelo fight which would delay the GGG/Canelo fight? So lets say Johnson call for the mandatory May 1st. Canelo fights May 7th. GGG has to fight Johnson in June/July and won't be able to turn around and fight Canelo in September.
