The best boxing is IN America but the greatest fighters come from everywhere and always have. You must remember that the sport is very young and when you have people from the countries in Europe migrate to America the different ethnic groups brought great fighters. Irish were first along with a few Germans, then Italians and Jews. It seemed that each had a 8 to 10 year influx time. Then the Islands were active and Mexico and Puerto Rico were always producing boxers of quality it seems. The sport had a visit from African boxers who trained very hard and offered excellant competition too. Now your seeing young people form the Sudans and the rest of the Middle East.
Boxing was a way up and out of trouble for youth who had anger and often walked into trouble. I'm not sure theres as many gyms today as there was through the 20s up till the 70s. I think theres fewer teachers now that are capable of teaching the "art" of boxing as opposed to fighting. You need to build strong bodies but your mind needs to be open so you can digest all the material your getting from a good teacher. To formuate words into motion and keep an edge that you need to be competitive. Do all that and stay calm and collective to be able to concentrate AND take a punch hahahaha lotts goin' on!! Its still the best country to box in and always will be we just need great fighters to bring the sport back to prominence. Ray Corso
