Not stopping Marquez in the first Pac fight was a GREAT call from Cortez

Man, things would have been different if that happened.

the legend of Erik Morales would have doubled

imagine? after dismantling MAB and taking JMM out in 1 round, El Terrible beats PAC

      or does he?

no remaining 11 rounds, no blueprint?

It was a good call. Cortez wasn't a horrible ref but having so many high profile fights put him in the spot light at times.

IMO Marquez won the 1st fight, lost the second and won the third

There was a bit with Larry Merchant praising him for this in the first 24/7 episode. I don't really think it was that close a call to be honest, Marquez wasn't stumbling around the ring or anything.

If you take out the 3 knockdowns, I had Marquez winning the first round.

LMAO. After the punch landed on Marquez. He was holding the rope to prevent himself from falling down. The ref didn't call it a knockdown and if Pac didn't punch him again, what do you think will happen next? Let Marquez scapes and Pacquaio should went to his corner right after isn't it?

Marquez made a serious mistake as well that could have signaled Cortez to stop it, during the 3rd knock down, Marquez in sheer disappointment purposely lays on his back with both his hands to his face. You definitely gotta give Cortez major credit.

That could have done it alright. Manny Steward was saying "It's over" when he saw Marquez do that.

That only means it doesn't AUTOMATICALLY end. Most commissions nowadays actually advise refs to stop a fight if a fighter is knocked down 3 times in one round due to medical issues.

Gone are the era's where fighters are allowed to literally die on their shields.
