  • Comments Thread For: Francois Botha-Michael Grant Rematch in Play For March

On November 19 at the Monte Casino in Johannesburg, South Africa, heavyweight veteran Francois Botha was seconds away from winning a decision over Michael Grant (48-4, 36KOs). Botha, who was ahead on points, got caught with a huge right hand which knocked him out in the twelfth and final round. Nicknamed the "White Buffalo," Botha (48-6-3-1, 28KOs) told BoxingScene.com that a rematch is already in motion for the month of March, in South Africa.

    Waste of time.

Michael Grant should be testing the up-and-coming HWs, not fighting old Botha again.

Why won't Wilder fight a BoxRec top 100 heavyweight?

He keeps fighting clubfighters from smaller weight divisions or grossly obese short heavyweights.

The Racket Squad: The Heavy Weight of The Wait

If HBO and Al Haymon are serious about Seth Mitchell, why not put him in with Grant or Arreola?
This is why the heavyweight division is so stagnant.
The name fighters like Mike or Chris would be grateful to get a contest with the newly promoted, but untested fighters.
Chris has been in with Tomas and Vitali.
Mike took a shot with Lennox Lewis.
Let's see some action other then the bluffs of a David Haye.

Probably the same reason why the current Heavyweight champ was still fighting guys like these by the time he got in the 20+ fight range.

And some of those tomato cans carried him the distance, one even KO'd him.

Shaheed was 16-0 when Wlad fought him and knocked him out in round one. Wilder had never faced anyone who is unbeaten. He's never even fought anyone who hasn't been KOed before.

No, those guys were a lot better than the soft opponents Wilder has been fighting. Wlad fought decent journeymen by his 15-20th fights, not complete bums.

And Wlad fought real heavyweights right from his very first fight, not clubfighters from smaller weight divisions like a lot of Wilder's opponents have been.

Seth Mitchell has been fighting decent journeymen lately. Even Tyson Fury who is younger has has less amateur experience than Wilder has fought MUCH BETTER opposition than Wilder.

Wilder has never had an opponent ranked in the BoxRec top 150.

Mitchell, Fury, Price, Helenius, Pulev, Perez, Ortiz, Glazkov, Abdusalamov, and Gerber all have fought decent journeymen and/or fringe contenders.

There's no such thing as a "decent journeyman".

Wilder is fighting the EXACT same level of competition that the current Heavyweight champ was when he was at the same point in his career.

                That's a FACT.

There was no such thing as BOXREC in 98/99 so for all we know those guys could have been ranked 300-400.

If you can't tell the difference between a decent journeyman like Travis Walker or Dominick Guinn and an absolute bum like Dustin Nichols (who knocked Wilder down) than you're not very bright.

And Wilder fights clubfighters from smaller weight classes like light heavyweight Dan Sheehan, who had lost 16 of his previous 17 fights before Wilder.

Wlad got carried the distance by a fat, balding 20-21 part time soccer dad with Man-**** in his 18th fight.

                    Your argument is invalid.
