          George Carlin was the best. Some other of my favorites are Richard Pryor, Dave Chapelle, Louis CK, Dave Attell, and Jim Jefferies.

            I think had Bill Hicks lived and provided he continued to perform he would have gone down as the greatest stand up comedian of all time.

            My list looks like this:

            1. George Carlin
            2. Lenny Bruce
            3. Richard Pryor
            4. Bill Hicks
            5. Sam Kinison

            I'm basing that on varying criteria. Influence, relevance, persona, quality etc.

            Anyway. All 5 of these comedians are without question the GOAT

                Richard Pryor is the goat. him & George Carlin are two of the funniest people I've ever watched. Chris Rock is an honorable mention, as well as Eddie Murphy's only two stand-up specials (Delirious and Raw).
