  • "P4P" not working in reality between "P4P" fighters.

"P4P" is a fun and interesting concept, a hypothetical system made up by balding boxing journalists that asks the question: if all boxers were the same size, then who would win in a fight?

The key word here is "hypothetical", because unless two of the "P4P" fighters are naturally of the same weight class, then it can't be tested. Fights are fought between blood, sweat and sinew, not guessing games between overweight boxing writers.

When Winky Wright fought Bernard Hopkins at catchweight, he was clearly above his natural weight class, so Hopkins wasn't fighting him as evidence of a "P4P" match up, given that the question that the entire theory is based on - what if they were the same size, who would win? - WASN'T being answered. Wright WASN'T the same size as Hopkins, and never will be, so "p4p" becomes meaningless in that reality.

P4P has also become meaningless in a lot of realities of late. No names mentioned.

This has been a common sense post. Tomorrow: **** comes out of your ass.

The p4p list is really just a run down of the top fighters based on recent resumes and achievements. I don't look at it like 'could Manny beat Wlad if they were the same size?'. I look at it like 'Is Manny a better boxer based on his record?'.

Wow. Someone besides myself actually KNOWS what p4p means. Which is why HW shouldn't even be mentioned as p4p anything.

p4p only works for smaller fighters fighting bigger guys. Floyd fighting Marquez shouldn't count for his p4p ranking. Marquez beating Floyd should boost him to #1 easy. Why? Because its a smaller guy(well, by divisions) fighting a bigger guy who has possibly the best skill set in the game right now.

Which is why I have no argument with Pacquiao being #1 p4p.
