For the record I think the problems faced by black youth is a consequence of class and poverty rather than a consequence of anything innately racial.

I read the article and it's so simplistic it's embarrassing. I agree to a certain extent that there are people who play victim and therefore hurt themselves in the long run.

Take welfare for example, it was meant to help the poor for a limited time, and ended up creating a system that ended up hurting the very people it was intended to help.

At the same time, there's something more to this than the article lets on. Once upon a time in America there was the "American Dream". The idea that if you pulled yourself up by your boot straps and worked hard you could achieve anything you wanted. I believe that exists better in America than in most countries but the American dream is dying.

It's dying because we have seen overwhelming statistics that show the level of advancement is seriously declining. The middle class is getting smaller, and advancement within economic groups is dwindling. The main reason for that IMO is income inequality. The rich are getting richer, the poor poorer and it's getting harder and harder for them to dig their way out of poverty.

Income inequality has hurt the American worker worse than anything else. Look at the low paying fast food jobs, the average age 20 years ago was a teenager, now it's almost 30 years old. Most people that are on welfare or some kind of help, HAVE A JOB. The can't pay the bills with the job they have and need some kind of outside assistance to make it.

So is there some truth to the culture of victim and handouts...sure. I also think this is much more complicated than the OP has made it to be, most likely because he's an idiot and a racist who makes absurd black and white points on issues that are not black and white.
