I think this tape definitively shows that Tunney was in no condition to get up at a 10 count. The ref takes about five seconds to start the count and Tunney actually hears him at the eight second mark. There's just no way he should have been able to make it to his feet.

I think he would have got up.
When at 3:19 about 8 seconds (as you say) after the KD, he's clearly waiting as much time as possible before resuming. When you know what's going on, 2 seconds is easily enough time to get up.
He had his hand on the rope the entire time which would have aided him in getting up (as it actually did).
I think he would have made it but whether he would have been coherent enough to fend off Dempsey afterwards is another story.
As for Dempsey's ranking... his stock goes up but not by enough to make any reasonable difference to his #.Last edited by Barn; 12-30-2012, 07:11 AM.
