Well no, this isn't a correct statement. First off it was about 600-700 Spanish troops and they recruited hundreds of thousands of rival tribes to do most of the fighting.

Even then the Aztecs put on a very valiant effort considering they were stone age people.

Most of the death came from disease, which infected them as soon as the Spaniards arrived.
