Why do religious men get circumcised?

Surely that goes against god? Why would he give you a foreskin if you didn't need it.

my understanding is that it goes back to ancient times. The procedure itself increases hygene for the patient especially as in ancient times showering and baths we uncommon. The problem was compounded in the middle east with hot dry weather with no access to water for long periods of time. Guess its just a traditon that became religion over time.
