    Arum flooded with ticket demand

    By Nick Giongco

Bob Arum swore he is not exaggerating when asked about the response to the Dec. 6 welterweight war between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.

"Every call is for 100, 200 (pieces) tickets and the phones (at Top Rank) and my phone have been ringing all day asking when tickets are going to come out," Arum told the Bulletin yesterday from Las Vegas.

"I think the same thing’s happening over at Golden Boy Promotions (GBP)," said Arum., who said last week that the most expensive will be priced at around ,500.

Arum has been there and done that but the seventy-something lawyer insists it’s been a very long time since Top Rank has seen such a tremendous reaction to a boxing match.

The Pacquiao-De La Hoya showdown will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and Arum isn’t afraid to be quoted that "we might need three MGM Grands" to accommodate the boxing fans who want to witness history.

The MGM Grand has a seating capacity of 17,157 for boxing.

With over three months remaining, there’ll be plenty of time to hype the event even further and Arum and De La Hoya-owned GBP are going on a six-city, five-day tour that will kick off with a press conference at Statue of Liberty in New York on Oct. 1 (Wednesday).

"From New York, we will go to Chicago on Thursday, Houston and San Antonio on Friday, San Francisco on Saturday and Los Angeles on Monday," said Arum.

Top Rank and GBP are on the same page in their pursuit of generating never-before-seen attention and both fighters, their respective entourage and TV crew from HBO, will take (12-seater) private planes to the different cities for the media blitz.
