the problem with cruiserweight is there is never a really truly great or outstanding fighter there (for very long) as whenever one comes along they inevitably go to heavyweight so it is left with a bunch of half decent fighters but no Hayes or Holyfields etc who inevitably leave to step up to heavy.

pretty much, cruiser has always been a "pit stop" division imo

He doesn't want to fight at cruiserweight, because there's less fame, glory, and money there than at light heavyweight.

He has no problems making 175, but he says he can't go any lower.

He fought at middleweight in the amateurs but he was a slender youth at that time.

The Cruiserweight division is popular in Europe, not in the U.S, that's why we rarely see threads about it around here. The division has given us many exciting fights in the last few years and is currently far from weak in my opinion -even though it lacks an elite fighter-.

Unification fights and more deserving/threatening title challengers could make the division even more exciting.

Wonderful division with plenty of entertaining fighters. It's a shame there are so many snobs towards the division.

Mchunu, Makabu, Chakhkiev, Hernandez, Huck, Kudryashov, Lebedev, Dorticos, Usyk and so on, its a loaded division full of skilled punchers.

Maybe fans see the likes of Cleverly, Bellew, McKenzie wrongfully ranked in the top 10 or there about and assume its much weaker than it is. In truth they are not top 20 all the above K.O them with ease and many more.
Wasn't everybody going ham about it a couple of months ago?

yoan pablo hernandez is a good cruiserweight. I havn't really followed his career and woulda thought he would have moved to heavyweight by now.

The division has never been stronger in it's history. I think the reason is that they bumped up the maximum weight to 200 and the amateur 201 fighters can make the weight easily. The division also has been helped by the fact that heavyweights are so much larger now then they were 25 years ago. Really a 210 pound heavyweight has no place to go anymore. So he is forced to stay at cruiserweight and eat broth soups and fruit to make weight.

Rocky Marciano,David Haye and Evander Holyfield are the 3 best CWs ever.

It's dead on this forum maybe. CW is one of the best divisions in boxing at the moment.

It has produced many competitive and exciting fights over the last few years: Lebedev - Jones, Wlodarczyk - Chakhkiev, almost every Huck's fight (he goes life and death quite often, weak champion btw) to name a few.

As to why it's not popular, Freedom explained it perfectly.
