  • Comments Thread For: Photos: Timothy Bradley Survives Disaster in Vargas Win

Timothy Bradley beat Jessie Vargas and won the WBO interim welterweight title in Carson, California, on Saturday night.

But the fight ended sensationally when Vargas thought he had won on a stoppage inside the last ten seconds.

A booming right to the jaw buckled Bradley’s knees and he was in big trouble when the referee, Pat Russell, thought he had heard the bell and stepped in, signalling the end of the fight with about ten seconds to go.

There was no disaster. He was caught but was in control of his senses and movement. There was 7 seconds left at a time he was holding so nothing was gonna change in there.

Get rid of these old as dirt refs.. No reason for them to referee a fight.. Dude can't hear probably can't see and shouldn't be in the ring. They need to give younger refs a chance.

First of all, when a ref signals a tko, he is usually supposed to wave it off for the person hurt and/or hug the fighter, he didnt do that to Bradley

7 seconds is a long time in a boxing match when 1 fighter nearly out, careers have been made or broken in that amount of time

Not saying it would have gone much different but the ref screwed up bad

The odds were that Bradley was going to survive the round. Don't know if in this fight you can be saved by the final bell of the fight

Bradley had come back to his senses to block a shot or two and start a clinch. Worse case, he takes a knee but that didn't seem necessary like it did against Provo. The chances of getting a stoppage was slim, but I sympathize with Vargas being upset about not getting the chance to play out those last seconds.

IMO Bradley was rocked very good but he would have survived. My problem is old ass Russell the referee. This old man thought he heard the bell because his senses/hearing isn't there anymore. There needs to be better refereeing and a cut off age. I mean how old is Russell, he's in his mid to late seventies for sure. I know Vargas more than likely wouldn't have KOed Bradley, but dang this old man ruined his chances.
