The acting in the original was not that good, but the overall rawness of it was definitely pretty awesome. Craven's earlier works were just really raw, gritty, borderline snuff films.
"The Last House on the Left" and "The Hills Have Eyes" are probably the best examples of that.

I prefer the original The Last House on The Left as well. I could watch it on repeat over and over
But some of the details were done a little better in the remake.
Wes Craven is the absolute hands down king of the genre.
I do love some Alfred Hitchcock though.
(And don't quote and edit my post to say: 'I do love some ****' either )

Hitchcock is clearly a master of the genre, as well. "Psycho", "The Birds", "Vertigo" and "Rear Window" are my favorite Hitchcock films.
No editing trickery here. Nope. None whatsoever.

That remake was total ****. Granted most remakes are total ****, but I seriously have a hard time understanding why any director wants to touch such a beloved film, first and foremost. Secondly, why you would shoot a "shot for shot" remake. WTF is the point?
