Khan took 1 fight against Paulie Malignaggi as a voluntary defence in May 2010. His next fight was in Decemeber 2010 against Maidana.

Champions are not obligated to fight 2 mandatories back-to-back. Khan already fought Salita who was the original mandatory.

That doesn't change the facts. Those are only lame ass irrelevant excuses.

Fact 1: Khan did nothing to deserve his title shot at 140 against Kotelnik. He had never fought at that weight, much less beat anyone of note. His title shot was gift wrapped for him by GBP and the WBA who were licking their chops at the sanctioning fees.

Fact 2: Maidana was WBA Champ before Khan. I suppose you will try to argue this fact even though it's based on historical events that were witnessed by millions.

Fact 3: Kotelnik-Khan went off with the WBA specifically saying the winner had to fight Marcos Maidana - the interim champion.

Fact 4: Nobody ever enforced a Salita mandatory. Khan begged off the Maidana fight which was the true mandatory against the interim champ and because he knew Salita was the easiest fight ever and a Jew he jumped at the chance for obvious reasons. To act like that fight took precedence over Khan-Maidana in anyone's eyes - including the WBA - is ****ing ******ed.

Fact 5: Khan couldn't "just drop" the belt like you casually state. He would have ****ed over the sanctioning body that had made him a paper champ and cost his promoter money by not fighting a title bout on HBO as well.
