Now, give the Germans a little time to sufficiently re-militarize, and they'd take out the French and the British both at the same time.

brits defeated napoleon several times. especially at sea. napoleon lost his empire. TWICE.

brits have invaded/occupied parts of france several times back to medieval times even though france was usually bigger/richer.

Well, the TS gave the qualifier of no intervention, so.

From about the 1300s England was essentially a kleptocracy and existed by invading parts of France and looting it.

even without intervention the germans couldn't conquer britain in ww2. battle of britain was BEFORE US/USSR iirc.

Yeah, this is partly the basis of my presuming that Britain's location is a very sizable advantage.

But, it's not as though the Germans in WW2 ever gave a fully concerted effort to invade Britain. It would've been a big undertaking, but they pretty much had a lot of different focuses at the time. If I'm not mistaken, they considered launching such an invasion, but decided against it.

Such is the tides of history. The Pacific War might actually present a model of sorts of how, all else being held constant, the Germans may have defeated England. That is, through a massive bombing campaign. Japan is also an island nation, difficult to invade. The island hopping strategy was in part to facilitate the bombing, wasn't it?

If, for instance, Germany would have gone all in on an air campaign, that may have been one approach. They wouldn't have needed to hop islands. Of course, they'd be in range of the British as well (as the elderly Germans surely still remember). But, it is plausible, I suppose, that by achieving superiority in the sky, the Germans might have been able to crack Britain.

                  Just an idea.

In the era of nukes we will hopefully never see nations who have nukes go at it in direct all out war. It will end up bad for everyone who breathes air. I like having 2 balls thank you very much any more seem unnecessary.

you need air superiority to launch an opposed amphibious landing.

after battle of britain, an invasion was impossible.

german fighters because of their range was at a disadvantage over britain.

germans needed a p47 thunderbolt or p51 mustang type long range fighter.

as far as bombing britain, germany didn't develop heavy bombers. no flying fortresses, liberators, short stirlings, lancasters, etc.

it comes from luftwaffe bomber tactics in supporting blitzkrieg instead of strategic bombing.

besides air power has always been overrated. you can't win a war with just bombing (unless nukes)

that's why before the atom bomb, usa was preparing for invasion of japan even though they've been pounding japan.
