Meehan spent his first 28 years in Avondale, West Auckland, but relocating to Sydney's Central Coast saw him lose some of his New Zealand identify. He slipped off the radar from a Kiwi perspective, and believes the November showdown with Cameron is about re-establishing his legacy.

Meehan & tua are done. tua couldn't beat monte barrett at a time when everyone was using him as a name stepping stone & Ustinov beat him easily. Meehan got knocked out by travis walker when he too was being used as a stepping stone with a big punch. too be honest Cameron is a good journeyman with a nice arsenal of punches but he cuts too easily &he got stopped by brian minto. these are all good domestic level fights but nothing more. anyone who has followed boxing knows david tua is the king on NZLD. joseph parker look to be the next one off the island to be a contender.
