    Good, AFL >>>> rugby league.

Is there any respect for rugby union in Australia?

Yep, a fair bit of respect for Union. The Wallabies have consistently been one of the top three sides in the world alongside NZ and Seth Effrica.

The Union season doesn't heavily overlap with AFL and NRL which helps.

Fair bit of interest in international union games but that is about it. The Super Rugby competition (involving provincial teams from SA, Australia and NZ) does pretty poorly. Fairly average attendances and it isn't on free to air television.
