Well, because people saying they are 'honorary' Irish for the day thinks that gives them the license to drink too much and act like a tit. When everyone knows the Irish can actually tolerate their drink.

Plus you don't run around saying I am an honorary African American because it is black history month, do you? We learn and respect it. It more seems like people don't want to let the Irish have their day
