Does anyone remember how much hype a heavy named Mike Williams was getting in '87? Most of it was based on the fact that he had supposedly handled Mike Tyson in a sparring session, and some because he was built like an adonis. He was named Ring Magazine's "prospect of the Year" that year, and that was with a whopping 10-0 record against tomato cans. His entire future was based on what he did in sparring and his physique....and that should let you know there wasn't really much there.
Though he was indeed an excellent fighter who had a VERY GOOD future ruined by his criminal behavior...I never believed TONY AYALA Jr. was gonna become what so many thought he would.
I really thought he'd have been ripped to shreds by guys like Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, and McCallum. Yeah, there's no shame in that, but there were plenty of people who thought he would some day belong in their company. I didn't see it.
Considering how unbelievably advanced Rosario looked at the age of 18....he could never have lived up to that promise. He is still the best propect I have ever seen.
I remember hearing about how devastating a hitter Pedroza was. I was very disappointed in his power when I finally got to see him fight for the first few times.
