Why do people confess to a preacher when only God himself has the authority to forgive sins?

A prieast can not tell you for certain that you are forgiven, only God knows that.

        Exodus 20:8-11 -
"Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work....For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

So why do people worship on Sunday the first day? With such a plain statement from God himself how do people get it wrong? The Jews and some Christians still keep the Seventh day which is Saturday but most Christians observe Sunday.

When I asked a Catholic Priest he said " The Catholic Church of its own infallible authority created Sunday a holy day to ake the place of the Sabbath. The Catholic Church which, by the authority of Jesus Christ, has transferred this rest to the Sunday in remembrance of the resurrection on our Lord. Most Protestant churches still pay homage to the Catholic Church by continuing to observe Sunday worship.

So I want somebody to find a Bible verse that changes the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Because after all we have to obey God not man.

Matthew 15:9 - "For in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men"

the pope changed the sabbath from saturday to sunday in 364 to honor the sun god and also show the pope's authority was greater than God's authority ( blasphemy ) - this is what the book of daniel means when he says the antichrist will try to change the set times and laws and will blaspheme God

don't confess your sins to a priest, he's a sinner like you, and probably in most cases a worse one

people pick and choose the parts of the Bible they want to believe, like shopping. if it's really God's word, it's all true, not just the parts we agree with

            Exodus 31:16–17

16 Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever. 17 qIt is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’

the old testimate is really only ment for the Israelite.

jesus makes the sabbath sunday as this is the day of his resurrection.

sabbath itself only means a day of rest and the commandments only speak of keeping the sabbath and keeping it holy, the sunday for chruch abides by this.

see you're dribbling rubbish again..you don't even know your own religion you silly cat

If Jesus died on Friday afternoon before sunset then Friday counts as one day and one night. All day Saturday also counts as one day and one night. Sunday doesn't count because John 20:1 says:

"The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre."

That is, Mary came to the tomb while it was still night. So we end up with two days and two nights -- one day and one night short.

It is a neat theory, but has little chance of being accepted because of almost two millennia of church tradition supports a Good Friday execution and Easter Sunday resurrection. Also if Jesus actually was resurrected on Saturday afternoon, then the church's justification for moving the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday would collapse, and the 35,000 or so Christian faith groups whose prime day for religious services is Sunday would have to admit that their movement of the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday was not justified.

she came the day after the end of the week, she came sunday morning early in the morning while it was still dark. church is held sunday morning.

thank you for posting the scripture that proves my point.

Friday Saturday and on the third day Sunday we have the lords day

Jewish Days start at sundown and ends the next day at sundown. This is important.
We see in Matthew 28 that Mary went to the tomb at the end of the Sabbath (Saturday at sunset). Therefore, he did not resurrect on Sunday morning.

Another common misconception is that he died on Friday. This would mean that he resurrected a day later. That doesn't fit. 3 days before Saturday night would have been Wednesday night.
