  • Italian boxing

For the last 30 years or so (ended the era of Benvenuti, Mazzinghi, Arcari etc.), Italian boxers have done very bad outside of Italy. They often lose when they fight in UK or Germany, they almost never reach USA... Successful amateur boxers are paid better than the pro (they are hired by the army and paid just to train all-day long while professional boxers have to do another job to survive), so the big talents tend to stay amateur or semi-pro for all their career (I'm talking about olympic medalists, world amateur champions etc.).

But last year, the Professional League was born: an organization which safeguards professional boxers, so we are beginning to see some success abroad (the european welterweight title between two italians, Bundu and Petrucci, the victory of Marsili in England), and of course the matches in Italy are reaching a higher level.

This is the Italian middleweight title bout fought yesterday. It's been just an intense match, please watch and enjoy.

Its too bad Robert Cammarelle did not turn pro. The italian super heavyweight has beaten Michael Hunter, David Price, Kubrat Pulev.
