  • Comments Thread For: Jose Gonzalez: Health is The Most Important Thing

Upon his arrival at the airport, as he landed back to Puerto Rico, lightweight contender José "Chelo" Gonzalez discussed Saturday's ninth round TKO loss to WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns in Glasgow, Scotland. Gonzalez started very strong and controlled much of the fight. Gonzalez was up on the cards 87-84, but he badly injured his left wrist and that prevented him from coming out for the tenth round.

Pic of injury? Gonzalez was throwing the left throughout the 9th round.

He had the fight totally won, just needed jab and dance and he would be a world champ. Very very poor. I'm surprised they let him back in the country.

I think it was Cotto who said something about his health but even if u take out the loaded wraps scenario, he took 3x more punishment in his fight with plasterito then what Gonzalez took vs burns.
