  • Rigo fans shouldn't talk trash about Donaire.

If you like Rigondeaux and want to see more of him, you shouldn't talk trash about the guy he just beat. Everyone knows Rigo beat Donaire, but instead of celebrating the victory people are tearing it down by railing on Nonito.

Quit hating on Donaire just because he's popular and has a style that is more pleasing to the general audience (read: people who actually pay for seats at a fight). You are doing Rigo a disservice by bashing the fighter he just beat!!

Calling Donaire trash will not make Rigo more popular. It will not make people like Rigo more. It will actually make people think less of him, because by making Donaire out to be a worse fighter than he is, it makes Rigo's win look less special than it was.

Calling Donaire trash will not make other fighters want to fight Rigo. It will make them less likely to fight him, because they'll see that people he beats are dragged through the dirt. It makes Rigo an even riskier fighter for no more reward.

If you want Rigo to show up on premium network TV again the three things you should be doing are:
    1) Demanding a fighter for Rigo to fight next!! Fights get made when fans demand match-ups.
    2) Write HBO a letter telling them you want to see more of Rigo!! Word it politely and tell them what you enjoy about Rigo's style. If people actually do this they will pay attention.
    3) Pay to see his fights!! The next time a Rigo fight is announced, make an effort to support him if you are really a fan. That's the only way he will ever grow in popularity: if people go to see his fights.

Boxing will never be a major sport if all people have to say are negative things. And Rigondeaux will never be a popular fighter i all people have to say about the guys he fought are negative things.

People can only call it like they see it.

Many said Donaire was a good fighter, not great, pre-fight. He was a good puncher that was made to look better than he was by match-making and HBO. Rigo is great regardless of what people say about his opponents, HBO just dont care.

I agree with your points 1, 2 and 3 though. Only fan support will help Rigo's popularity,

He was a counter-puncher that got beaten by a better, more disciplined counterpuncher who forced him to play a style (pressure-fighter) that wasn't his element at all.

Donaire is a great fighter. Just look at his last year of competition! It's not like all those guys are mediocre bums. That's a list of four tough boxers to take on in the course of one year.

Rigo-Donaire was a poor style fight all around which made for a bad viewing experience for the casual viewer. Fights between two counterpunchers never are good to watch, just look at Mayweather-Marquez. But you make the fight worse if you call him trash because he lost to Rigondeaux.

The problem with calling Donaire a bum if you are a Rigo fan is that you justify everyone who says Rigo could have done more in the fight. If Donaire is a bum, then Rigo didn't need to be so defensive against him, did he?

The truth is that Rigo needed to play a cautious game because he knows Donaire is hard-hitting and a natural counterpuncher himself. So he played a disciplined outside game instead, forcing Donaire to chase him and then countering Donaire's incoming punches. It was not a pleasing style for everyone to watch, but it was very technically savvy and won Rigondeaux the fight. He might not have won the fight if he had engaged with Donaire.

If you are a Rigo fan then this is what you need to tell people to promote him!! If you go around telling people that Donaire is a bum and nobody should care about him now that Rigo has beaten him, you take away all the significance of Rigo's accomplishment. If more people think Donaire was always a bum even before he fought Rigondeaux, then less people will care about Rigo beating him.

Feel free to hate on whoever you want. It's your right as a sports fan. I'm just saying that hating on Donaire isn't going to help Rigo get fights, it's going to hurt him.

If it fits your agenda. Been saying thst alot today.

And yes in that 12th round Rigo was running but couldnt catch the scared Nonito. If Nonito had stayed and traded he would have got KO'd.

I don't know what this is in reference too. Are you talking about the agenda to get Rigo back with a televised fight on HBO?

People are trash on NSB if they lose a fight. Until they win their next one. Short term memory here.
