TOKYO — As previously reported, Atsushi Kakutani will challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight champion Adrian Hernandez of Mexico next month, his gym said on Thursday.
It will be the first attempt by Kakutani, ranked 12th in the WBC, at a world title and will take place in Mexico City on August 10.
“I know I’m the underdog on his home ground, but I’m going to train hard to win. I’ll try to beat him by a KO,” said Kakutani, 28.
