  • Comments Thread For: Karo Murat Pumped Over Mandatory Shot at Hopkins

Karo Murat (25-1-1, 15 KOs) has been waiting a long time for his shot at a world title. But it seems like his wait could finally be over. The 29-year-old light heavyweight has been named the mandatory challenger for the IBF Champion back in 2011. Ever since then, Murat was hoping to square off with then-champion Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KOs). But things have changed quite a bit over the weekend as Cloud lost a unanimous decision against Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KOs). Therefore it is the 48-year-old Hopkins who has to defend his newest championship against the mandatory challenger and prodigy of Coach Ulli Wegner. The IBF has already ordered both parties involved to hold immediate negotiations.

Why on earth would Hopkins take this fight. Murat is delusional if he thinks he will.

So, I guess he "earned" the shot by drawing with Campillo in 2011. Don't even have to actually win "eliminators" to become a mandatory these days.

usually im all for big stars taking on their lesser known mandatorys but in this case whats the point? at his age hopkins doesnt have too many fights left and murat does nothing for his legacy or resume, just a name on his record.

its not like he holds the true light heavyweight championship either, its a title and a recognized one at that but dawson is the true champion at 175. hopkins had no reason to hold on to the belt and even less reason to fight murat.

still, it will be quite amusing when this situation turns murat into a beast who hopkins is desperately afraid of and ducking at all costs in the eyes of some haters around here.

He's been Cloud's mandatory for a while IIRC. He's probably taken a step aside fee already.

By making this press release, he's asking for another stepaside, cause it's very unlikely the fight happens

This fella (who's face happens to look like a strange hybrid of Arthur Abraham and James DeGale :conf1: ) got spanked around like an idiot by Cleverly, so the next logical fight should be the latter.

Hopkins spanks 'em both. On the same night.
