I've seen that thing before, albeit in a subtle way. I've seen one or both of the Klitschko brothers do it, and I'm trying to recall others. It's not because they want to inflict more damage, but just to prolong the fight, perhaps to make it look like it's not a mismatch or a cherrypick, or maybe entertain the audience, make their money's worth. Let's admit that most people were hoping the underdog would beat the count, hug more, run just to survive the round.
