  • Canadian troops have left Afghanistan: was it worth it?

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/13/world/...ml?hpt=bosread

After more than 12 years and under a blanket of security in Kabul, Canadian military operations in Afghanistan came to a formal close this week. As the Canadian flag was lowered at NATO headquarters in a low-key ceremony, officials looked back at a mission that began in 2001 and cost the country 158 military lives.
For every soldier killed, there's several more who have long-term injuries: dismemberment, blindness or disfigurement.

And was it worth the billions in Canadian taxpayers money? Could the money have been better spent on helping our disabled and others who live in poverty?

Exactly what did the Canadian mission accomplish?

    Today's news story:

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/20/world/...html?hpt=wo_c2

(CNN) -- Taliban militants stormed a police station in eastern Afghanistan, and a deadly gun battle ensued, the country's Interior Ministry said.

At least 11 people were killed and 22 were injured at the Jalalabad station, and at least six attackers were killed, according to a doctor at the hospital.
This comes as the militant group threatened to carry out attacks ahead of next month's presidential elections.

Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid confirmed the action to CNN. He said fighters will "continue to attack the pro-U.S. Afghan establishment."

Al Qaeda is completely driven out of the area and has vastly diminished capacity to strike, all the training camps in the region are gone and the Taliban stranglehold on Afghanistan has been reduced.

Depends what you mean "worth it". A number of soldiers I know think it was.

Denmark has the highest KIA rate per capita. I think we paid a very hefty price, but I'm glad that we fought with and for our allies. Afghanistan is no longer a terrorist nest. It had to be done.

war has nothing to do with being "WORTH IT"

canada had obligations, they did their duty.

canada sent some good troops. they have/had some of the longest sniper kills.

they have small army but they mix it up. like the brits and aussies.

they fought. most nato troops who shall be left unnamed never left base and just sat around eating knockwurst and drinking lager.

War is rarely ever worth it. The only people that won were the american 'defense' contractors.

wars don't have to be "WON" to be worth it. neither do they have to be "WORTH IT" to be fought.

who/how/what decides if a war is "WORTH IT" anyway?

some ppl, especially americans, seem to think victory is a deciding factor of a war's worth.

example ww2 was a good war. america won.

                    vietnam was bad. america loss.

                    korea was okay. draw.

wars are natural. they've been happening for thousands of years.

the west tries to be too "CIVILIZED" and it bites them in the ass.
