Please notice several things...
- The slowness of the punches for a 200lb man
- The uncoordinated "pygama sleeves" style punching
- The complete lack of any defence as he slugs away
- The lack of any refined skills or setting up altogether
- The smallness/weakness of the opponents
- The bumminess of the opponents (and of Liston himself)
- The school grade level skipping prior to the highlights
And remember, this is a clip designed to make Liston LOOK GOOD!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo86miTzvPc
Above I have posted a highlight of Hasim Rahman. I urge ALL viewers to watch and compare these 2, 3 min clips.
There is no question that Rahman is faster than Liston
There is no quesion that Rahman is far better skilled than Liston
There is no question that Rahman is far more defensively responsible than Liston
There is no question that Rahman has better reflexes and coordination than Liston
There is no question that Rahman fought larger+stronger opponents
There is no question that Rahman fought better quality opponents
There is no question that Rahman's training far exceeded Listons
There is no question that Liston is a bum compared to Rahman.
CONCLUSION:
Rahman eclipses Liston both on paper AND on video. And when these 2 lines of evidence combine, nut bag responses based on popularity or nostalgism are worthless.
You've been exposed clear as day..
Rahman=SuperListon
Fact!
Come on now elroy, you know liston is better ,he beat Williams twice! We all know Rahman would never defeat those 170/200 pound sloppy fighters with losing records liston beat anyway, even though ones on vid in this very thread that shows a 5'7 175 pounder but who cares he was the german champion so he must be miles over Rhaman too.. but whos looking?..... Heaven forbid if Patterson got a hold of him as wellLast edited by juggernaut666; 11-24-2015, 05:46 PM.

These were the top guys of alis prime........ ^^^^^

Look its juggy & elroid making friends and playing nicely
Sonny's early days;
Not bad for a guy fresh out of prison!
Amateur Highlights
1953
St. Louis Golden Gloves
Feb 13 Luther Corder KO 2
Feb 13 LLoyd Willis W 3 - Finals
Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions
Feb 24 Donnie Fleeman KO 3
Feb 24 Carl McClure W 3
Feb 25 Tullos Lee Mead KO 2 - Quarterfinals
Mar 6 Ben Bankhead W 3 - Semifinals
Mar 6 Ed Sanders W 3 - Finals----(Olympic Heavyweight Champion)
Intercity Golden Gloves Championship (Chicago, IL)
Mar 26 Julius Griffin W 3
National AAU Tournament (Boston, MA)
Apr 14 Lou Graff KO 1
Apr 15 James McCarter L 3 - Quarterfinals
International Golden Gloves (St. Louis, MO)(champ)
West Germany Jun 23 Herman Schreibauer TKO 1--(European bronze medalists)
Not much background or experience yet he did very well against top amatuer fighters.
Liston is a top ten heavyweight puncher and the video shows that (thanks elroid). You see men with heavy hands don't need to be in a hurry they usually step and try to keep one foot on the matt so they can set up quickly when the opening presents its self.
Liston in his prime was a very fighter and had an excellant jab too. At 6' 1/2"
with a huge 82" reach he had power and reach advantages over most heavies
A man who parlayed boxing and fighting very nicely he was a huge draw as a up & comer and a feared puncher in his prime.

Ray
Can you name me one top HW in the 90's who wouldn't be a feared puncher pre 70's?

Cleveland Williams ey.
A "puncher" back in those days LOL basically meaning he was about as skilled as a tree sloth.
What the nut bags like Scott fail to check is his performance against 200+ opponents and more specificlly against 220lb realm opponents which Rahman actually fought.
We then find Williams was about as much a puncher as Chris Byrd!
Oh, but size didn't matter to guys like Williams and Liston, guys who out-sized nearly ALL of their opponents LOL

Well think about, gotta go have a nice nite and try not to have everyone hate you at once, bad karma!
In order to save his precious Liston, Ray has to resort to Chris Byrd!
ASide from the fact that the Byrd punch would be MUCH stronger against 50's opponents (maybe even a top puncher?)..
Who from the 50's could land any good blows on Byrd?
Byrd would have utterly dominated the 50's, clowned and KOed Liston by accumulation fairly early and be today held as some sort of boxing GOD that nobody since could ever hold a candle to.

Are you unable to believe your own eyes?
Or do you trust what you are told to think over the actual evidence when it's right in front of your face?
This Liston has just been destroyed right in front of your eyes and you are still in denial!
Like some sort of religious freak!
There is no cure for the sickness that has overtaken you Scott. Just LOOK at them!

Someone who said Earnie Shavers would have the same punching power as Chris Byrd if he fought now?
Someone who said he would be able to beat prime Jack Dempsey in a boxing match?
Sorry, when I read your posts I see a guy with clown hair, a clown nose, and clown shoes. So try to spread your propaganda somewhere else, Bozo. You have zero credibility with me.
